Within the north-east Midlands there is a variation in agricultural land use, making it suitable for a wide range of trials. To the east are the Nottinghamshire sand lands, and the Lincolnshire fens, where root and salad crops are grown. To the south are traditional cereal, oilseed rape and potato farms in Warwickshire and Leicestershire. Brassicas, lettuce and other horticultural crops are located along the Trent Valley. Wet weather diseases, grassland and maize can be found in Staffordshire and Cheshire.
