OAT Invests in New Grain Maize Header

Oxford Agricultural Trials (OAT) is pleased to announce the purchase of a new 2-row grain maize header from Trials Equipment, which has been successfully fitted onto one of our Sampo 2010 plot combines.

This new piece of equipment is designed to streamline the harvesting process for grain maize, which is becoming an increasingly popular crop in the UK.

The new Fantini maize header, manufactured in Italy, is proving to be a game-changer, having already been used to harvest 130 plots of grain maize with exceptional results.

“The header strips the cob from the plant and feeds only the cob into the combine, which is then threshed using a more robust concave that has now been fitted to the combine. This method significantly reduces the remainder of the plant, leaving a manageable crop residue that can easily be ploughed in or incorporated into the soil,” explains MD Chris Kay.

“The quality of threshing and the resulting sample from this equipment is outstanding, ensuring clean and precise grain maize collection and therefore accurate data,” he notes.

“In addition, the header is capable of harvesting a far larger plot area, and is an efficient alternative to hand harvesting and threshing methods,” says Mr. Kay.

This new maize header is compatible with 75 cm row widths. The header is also adaptable, with an in-cab control button that allows the operator to adjust the equipment to handle various stem sizes with ease.

“Grain maize is an increasingly important crop in the UK, and OAT is thrilled to add this state-of-the-art equipment to our inventory. This now completes our offer for forage and grain maize trials, whether plant breeding, crop safety, fungicide or biostimulant/crop nutrition.”

“The combine and maize header are also available for contract harvesting work, and we’re happy to provide quotations for any grain maize harvesting services you may need.
